THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHILDREN'S CHOIR OF THE BROTHERHOOD IN THE NAME OF CHRIST ALL GRACIOUS SAVIOUR Precentor Tatiana Koroleva The Brotherhood in the Name of Christ, All Gra- cious Saviour unites religious communities of the Moscow clergymen: Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyev, Archpriest Dmitri Smirnov, Arkadi Shatov,Aleksan- der Saltykov, Valentin Asmus who serve as priests in Moscow in Nikolo-Kuznetsky Church, in St.Prince Dmitri Church of the First Gradsky (Go- litsin) Hospital, in Sanctifier Mitrophani of Voro- nezh Church and Annunciation Cathedral. The of- ficial registration of the Brotherhood took place in October 1990, but the spiritual unity and en- ergetic religious activities of its members have its origin in the spiritual leadership and nurture of the remarkable holy Elder Hermit Pavel Troitsky (1894 -1991) and his beloved intimate friend and fellow pastor Archpriest Vsevolod Shpiller (1902 - 1984), Dean of the Nikolo-Kuznetsky Church. One of the most favoured acts of the Brother- hood started still in those recent times when all activities of that kind were regarded as illegal, was setting up of Children's Choir. The children ga- thered together secretly and their houses, often changed the places of rehearsals showing moving enthusiasm for that. The soul of the Choir since the moment of its appearence has been its teacher and precentor Tatiana Koroleva, she is also a precentor of the adult's choir in the Nikolo-Kuznetsky Church. The Children's Choir was educated at church services and is able to sing the whole of the Vespers and Liturgy. The existance of the Choir would be im- possible without the main things: pastor leader- ship, and regular confessions and Eucharists to Holy Sacraments of Jesus Chriest. The Choir always ornaments important sol- emn events in the life of the Brotherhood. It is impossible to forget funeral services and wedding within the Brotherhood. Joyous, radiant strikingly beautiful wedding ceremonies the wonderful singing of the Children's Choir. The interest and attraction to ancient religious monastic singing, to the famous chant was incul- cated with great love and affection by Anatoli Grindenko - one of the best performes of ancient holy songs. Children are growing. The first generation sings already in the adult's choir of the Brotherhood churches. This disc is possibly the first recording of the Russian Orthodox Children's Choir. There had been many such choirs before 1917 but their rec- ordings are not known, after 1917 children's sing- ing in churches was impossible. With the revival of the Russian religious life children's church sing- ing is also returning to life.
